Seems russian rebels actually are attacking Russia on a Russian soil and even managed to capture some small territory

Very interesting development in the war in Ukraine. Seems Russian rebels actually are attacking Russia on a Russian soil and managed to capture some small territory. That guy from the video gives very good explanation and breakdown of what happened.

Restarting the blog and the first couple of articles about new discoveries in the anti-aging field

Hello everyone, I decided to restart the blog or rather the daily digest of the interesting stuff I am finding in internet and sometimes in real life. Here are the first few thing I've read about today:

1. Newly discovered molecule effectively destroys senescent cells.

Seems this particular finding is more promising and significant than most of the others

Here is a link to the article

2. Taiwanese scientist's research suggests that with a single genetic modification, existing stem cell transplant treatments could extend life spans by 20% & make people 2-7 more resistant to cancer.

Submission Statement from https://www.reddit.com/user/lughnasadh/

"This is demonstrated in mice, but unlike many research breakthroughs seems much closer to being a treatment that can be used soon.

Here the lead scientist, Che-Kun James Shen, specifically points out that existing stem cell treatments to replace bone marrow could achieve what the research demonstrates. It will be interesting to see when this moves to human trials."

Paul Signac - Santa Maria della Salute, 1904

My favourite painting, Paul Signac - Santa Maria della Salute, 1904. The style is impressionism and more specifically pointillism.

Raccoon's intelligence

View post on imgur.com

This looks just way too intelligent. I am thinking about selective breeding of raccoons to make them smarter and possible achieve human-like intelligence, so our species will have a companion.

New advancements in the development of exoskeleton

There are some new developments on the exoskeleton front. I consider this one of the next big things, that we'll look in future and think about 2016, as we do now about the first telegraphs in 19 century.

See more in Reddit, too.

Warcraft, The Movie. Why a flop???

Today watched the Warcraft movie and I see in Wikipedia and many other places negative critics. However I was with a guy who never played WoW and both of us enjoyed this movie. Just as was the case with the all praised Star Wars 7, my personal opinion is completely opposite of what the critics said. SW7 was big disappointment for me, but somehow almost all of the critics rated it highly. Now about the Warcraft movie, I am not sure what makes it a flop, so I'd recommend see for yourself and don't pay too much attention to clueless critics.

360TB data practically to be stored for forever

This popped up in my news feed some time ago, but I've seen it today discussed on Reddit again, so I thought to share it. Its essentially coin-sized quartz (something like glass) disk, that can store loads of data. Its on stage "proof of concept", but judging by the evolution of other inventions, likely it will turn to be the norm in some not very far future.

Scientists want to recreate Pleistocene ecosystem with Woolly Mammoths

I wrote time ago about finding of preserved mammoth carcasses and then there were talks for de-extinction of the species, but time passed and there were not much practical progress, but I still look around for updates and news on the topic.

Today this article looks again into the issue of the cloning of extinct animals and attempt to recreate the Pleistocene ecosystem with Woolly Mammoths included.

The Oldest Surviving Examples of Music

While browsing today's Reddit front page, I stumbled on curious topic, "What is the oldest surviving piece of music" and I thought that it would be interesting hear how sounded the music somewhere closer to its roots. So the Reddit Research Institute pointed very fast to the answer and I found it rather fascinating.

The 2200 year old Seikilos Epitaph (direct link to the music) is the oldest surviving complete musical composition, including musical notation, from anywhere in the world. There also is Hurrian hymn n6, which is 3400 years old but there are some issues with the reconstruction, however we can get somewhat the idea of what used to sound like that melody.

Another step into the future. It seems the progress is accelerating really really fast.
