This looks just way too intelligent. I am thinking about selective breeding of raccoons to make them smarter and possible achieve human-like intelligence, so our species will have a companion.

The Oldest Surviving Examples of Music

While browsing today's Reddit front page, I stumbled on curious topic, "What is the oldest surviving piece of music" and I thought that it would be interesting hear how sounded the music somewhere closer to its roots. So the Reddit Research Institute pointed very fast to the answer and I found it rather fascinating.

The 2200 year old Seikilos Epitaph (direct link to the music) is the oldest surviving complete musical composition, including musical notation, from anywhere in the world. There also is Hurrian hymn n6, which is 3400 years old but there are some issues with the reconstruction, however we can get somewhat the idea of what used to sound like that melody.

Wild ocelot playing with human

I am somewhat experienced with the wildlife, but this is something I couldn't imagine happening. Wild ocelot simply allowing a human to pet it??? Incredible.

Human eye. Rare case of complete lack of pigment, the eyes appear rather purple (red) than the usual blue or grey.

In another than the so called "Caucasian race" the look of person with albinism is very strange (probably only in my bigoted opinion of backyard European). I never have seen or even thought how these people look.

The albinistic people generally have pale skin, blond hair and light colour eyes. The eyes occasionally appear red due to the underlying retinal blood vessels showing through where there is not enough pigment to cover them. In humans this is rarely the case, as the human eye is quite large and thus produces enough pigment to lend opacity to the eye. However, there are cases in which the eyes of an albinistic person appear red or purple, depending on the amount of pigment present.

(My personal opinion is that albino is one of the prettiest colour variations)

Many people think that is Vasily Zaytsev, but there is other man Fyodor Okhlopkov. Zaytzev had 242 verified kills and Okhlopkov 429 confirmed kills. For Zaytsev the real number may be much higher, some argue it might have been as many as 400, but the same is true as well for Okhlopkov, who is on other hand Yakut and often overlooked for that reason. Despite him ethnics he had typical Russian name.

Golden Eagle vs Red Fox

Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) fight Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes). Here are series of shots of this encounter. The winner is likely to be the Eagle. The photo is taken on February 22nd 2006 South Finland, by ©Pekka Komi.


In this case the Eagle despite of the brave attack is in trouble. Generally is likely in encounter between the two animals to win the Eagle, but the Fox also have great possibility for success.

Belgian UFO wave

The Belgian UFO wave refers to a series of sightings of triangular UFOs in Belgium, which lasted from November 29, 1989 to April 1990.
The Belgian UFO wave peaked with the events of the night of 30/31 March 1990. On that night unknown objects were tracked on radar, photographed, and were sighted by an estimated 13,500 people on the ground - 2,600 of whom filed written statements describing in detail what they had seen. Following the incident the Belgian air force released a report detailing the events of that night.

After some researches my conclusion is that there are too much serious witnesses in this case and it is probably true.

Python vs tiger

This is real (so I believe) fight between young bengal tiger and probably reticulated python (Python reticulatus). The python is at least 6-7 m (this mean about 20 feet, but in the article is said to be 25 or 30 feet, that mean near 10 m, but on other hand I've seen pictures of 8 m python and it seem somewhat bigger). The result is apparently draw. Here is an explanation what exactly happen and how this movie is filmed by Frank Buck (November, 1932).

The world's largest rat

The Gambian Pouch Rat is the largest rat in the world according many sources. The true is that it is rather the biggest rat-like creature, because the nutria is double in size and that rat is not true rat. He can grow up to 3 or 4 kg. The creature on the picture is may be him smaller cousin - the Emin's rat, I am don't sure. Here we have also funny video where we can see how smart they can be.

Skull on Mars

The photo is from Gusev crater, Mars. May be the object on the picture is only strange shaped stone, but is impressive how symmetrical and skull-like it is. There are not a lot of similar stones around.
